Robin van Persie (born 6 August 1983) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a striker for Fenerbahçe and the Dutch national team. He is married to Bouchra and the couple are proud parents of son Shaqueel and daughter Dina. Robin played for both Excelsior and Feyenoord Academies, Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Having joined Arsenal in 2004, Robin became the club captain in 2011, one year before he joined Manchester United. Robin was crowned footballer of the year in England in 2012 and was topscorer of the Premier League in 2013. His goals helped Manchester United win the League title in his first season in Manchester. In 2015 he made a transfer to Turkish top club Fenerbahçe.
The son of two artists, Robin did not follow in his parents’ footsteps, he preferred football and joined Excelsior’s youth Academy at the age of five. He made his big breakthrough at another hometown club Feyenoord, where he won the 2002 UEFA Cup. He was named the Dutch Football Talent of the Year for the 2001-2002 season. He won the FA Community Shield and the FA Cup in his first season with the London club. In 2012 he was voted best player by the players and by the football writers in England. Robin played in three World Cups, reaching the World Cup final in 2010 with Holland against Spain and finished 3rd in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Robin and Bouchra have raised funds over the past years for several projects in Africa and for Sophia Children’s hospital in Rotterdam. Bouchra has spent time in Africa with underprivileged kids and families. Robin has been supporting grass roots football and soccer for less privileged kids for many years. He has his own international Tournament for professional clubs and an amateur tournament for 1000 kids every year.
